Jessica Chastain is in talks to star as a chieftain Sitting Bulls’ advisor in upcoming drama “Woman Walks Ahead.”

Once the deal is finalized, Chastain will play Caroline Weldon, a Brooklyn native who moved to the Standing Rock Reservation in the Dakota Territory in efforts to help Sitting Bull keep the land for his people. Weldon lived on the land for several years with her son while writing letters to the federal government.

The actress was recently seen in “The Martian” and “Crimson Peak.

The film is set to be directed by Susanna White, who previously directed “Generation Kill” and “Nanny McPhee Returns.” Steven Knight penned the script, and Ed Zwick, Marshall Herskovitz, Rick Solomon, and Erika Olde will produce the film.

White most recently directed “Our Kind of Traitor,” starring Damien Lewis and Ewan McGregor. Knight was nominated for a screenwriting Oscar Fro “Dirty Pretty Things” in 2003. He also wrote an untitled World War II thriller that will star Brad Pitt and Marion Cotillard, with Robert Zemeckis directing.

Black Bicycle Entertainment is financing the project. Zwick-Herskovitz’s banner Bedford Falls and Black Bicycle are the production companies for the film.
