A24 Gains Rights to “American Honey” Starring Shia Labeouf and Riley Keough

A24 has acquired the rights to “American Honey,” a coming-of-age drama starring Shia Labeouf, Riley Keough and Sasha Lane.

The film, directed by Andrea Arnold, follows a traveling magazine sales crew as they chase the American dream. After joining the group, Lane’s character gets caught up in law-breaking behavior, hard partying and a relationship with one of the crew’s leaders.

According to producer Lars Knudsen, the team spent over a year holding auditions for the cast and is “thrilled to end the journey with [their] friends at A24.” Knudsen went on to say, “the resulting story shows what Andrea does best – authentic, personal filmmaking.”

Parts & Labor, Pulse Films and ManDown Pictures are producing the film, which was co-developed by Film 4 and jointly financed by Film 4 and Maven Pictures’ film fund, BFI.

“American Honey” is set for a late 2016 release. Protagonist Pictures will handle the film’s international sales.
