As of Wednesday, “Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens” has officially become the highest grossing film of all time in North America. The film has grossed $758.2 million in only 20 days. This gross will quickly beat James Cameron’s “Avatar” as the number 1 grossing film, which brought in $760.5 million back in 2009, and an extra $10 million when re-released in theaters.
Despite the recent accomplishment, “Star Wars” still has yet to beat the record for highest grossing film worldwide which “Avatar” currently holds with $2.78 billion in earnings. Box office observers believe that “Force Awakens” will earn between $2.2-2.4 billion, beating previous No. 2 holder “Titanic.” As of Monday, “Force Awakens” has earned $1.54 billion, and will most likely earn more once released in China on January 9.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens is still in theaters right now.
