“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” monumental run in the box office is progressing at an unbelievable rate. The film has been breaking records left and right. Now on another big movie day during the calendar year, the 7th installment in the legendary franchise has broken yet another record.

“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” has made over $35 million-$40 million on Christmas day easily surpassing the previous record held by Guy Ritchie‘s 2009 film Sherlock Holmes which made $24.6 Million. Upon Breaking this record the star wars film officially holds the title of having the biggest Christmas Day release of all time.

Last weekend, “The Force Awakens” took the top opening weekend box office record away from “Jurassic World” with $247.9 million and now estimates are saying that The Force Awakens is expected to gross another $120 million in box office sales.

Meanwhile on Christmas Day: comedy flick “Daddy’s Home took second-place with $10 million, the Golden Globe nominated “Joy” earn $7 million, Will Smith’s “Concussion” grossed $4 million, and finally “Point Break” made $3 Million in the box office overall.

“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” is directed by JJ Abrams and stars a cast that includes Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Oscar Issaac, Mark Hamill, Adam Driver, Domhnall Gleeson, Andy Serkis, Lupita Nyongo, Gwendoline Christie and Max Von Sydow.
