Santa will be arriving a little earlier next year, and it isn’t the nice Jolly ol Saint Nick that we all have come to know . According to Variety, “Bad Santa 2″ has finally received a release date of November 23, 2016. “Bad Santa 2” is the sequel to the 2003 hit “Bad Sanata”. The film was a comedy that followed a thief that impersonated Santa Clause and tried to rob the mall that he works in, of all of its valuables items. The original film was a modest Box Office hit making a worldwide total of $76 million against a production budget of $23 million. But the original is adored and loved by fans. Broad Green Pictures will be the ones who will be able to bring joy to fans next holiday season.
Bad Santa’s release date puts it in the Thanksgiving Holiday weekend, which has become a very lucrative weekend for studios. Usually they place their blockbusters on this weekend where families will go from their houses after Thanksgiving dinner to the movie theaters. Bad Santa 2 will have some stiff competition that weekend as the Harry Potter prequel/spinoff “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them”, the Disney Animated flick “Moana”, an untitled thriller flick starring Brad Pitt and Marion Cotillard, and the Matt Damon film “The Great Wall” will all be released as well.
Bad Santa 2 will be directed by Mark Waters (Mean Girls) and will see the return of Billy Bob Thornton as William T. Stokes, and Tony Cox who played Stokes henchman Marcus. Also joining are Brett Kelly as Thurman Merman, and new addition Kathy Bates as Stokes’s mother.
