Sofia Boutella is in talks to play the titular character in a new remake of “The Mummy” after a breakout performance in last February’s “Kingsman: The Secret Service.”
Boutella played the right hand assassin to Samuel L. Jackson‘s villainous character in “Kingsman,” Fox’s 2015 hit.
However, the new”Mummy” film will be a much different role as it is set to be the first of several interconnected monster flicks that the studios hopes will build into a cinematic universe. These other films will revolve around other classic monsters such as Dracula, Frankenstein, the Invisible Man, and the Bride of Frankenstein. There will even be a remake for the vampire hunter Van Helsing in the future.
In regards to other details for the upcoming film, Tom Cruise is also in negotiations to star and reports say that it will be set in modern day. Alex Kurtzman will be directing the feature and Universal will distribute. Jon Spaihts is writing the script, although plot details are being kept under wraps (no pun intended). Kurtzman will be producing alongside Chris Morgan and Sean Daniel.
The film is set for a March 24, 2017 release.
