James Franco got back into the director’s chair and recently released an emotional trailer for the film adaptation of James Faulkner’s novel The Sound and the Fury. The story follows the Compson family, a Southern family torn apart by loss over a 30 year period. The cast includes Danny McBride, Seth Rogen, Scott Haze, The Help’s Ahna O’Reilly, Pretty Little Liars’ Keegan Allen, Ramona and Beezus’ Joey King, Jon Hamm and Tim Blake Nelson, as well as Franco himself.

The trailer explores the deep-seeded issues within the Compson family, including Benjy Compson’s mental disabilities and his family’s shame towards him. Franco plays Benjy in his older years and emotionally portrays the struggles he faces. The younger cast lays the background for the intense power struggle that continues within the family decades later.

Franco’s The Sound and the Fury had its initial release on September 5. New Films International has released the film in theaters and it is on VOD now.
