Star Wars: The Force Awakens will be released this December and the other day tickets already went on sale. Fans rushed to the internet and found problems when multiple servers crashed due to fans wanting tickets. Nevertheless, ticket sales broke a new record.
The Force Awakens has already surpassed the mark for advance ticket sales for IMAX shows, on Fandango, and other retailers. According to The Hollywood Reporter, The Hunger Games held the previous record and Star Wars passed that mark by eight times more.
IMAX made $6.5 million in ticket sales alone and the movie is still two months film release. The previous record for IMAX was one million for any single movie and with the film dominating theaters for the first four weeks of its release so those numbers have nowhere to go but up.
Experts are saying that the new Star Wars movie could easily break the opening week record and may even push back release dates of other movies that are coming out around the same time. If you are one of the people who are really looking forward to Sisters or Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip, then you may have to wait a little longer because they also come out on December 18th.
