With the much anticipated release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens nearing ever closer, Disney has revealed a new poster for the film in addition to announcing that a new trailer will be aired tomorrow during the Giants / Eagles game on Monday Night Football on ESPN. The poster is a nice blend of good and bad characters as well as a few ships and lightsabers for good measure. Done by Drew Struzman (who did the prequel posters and the special edition re-release artwork), visually, it seems go nicely along with the other film posters within the “Star Wars” franchise. However, upon looking at the poster closely there seem to be more questions than answers at this point. A few items jump out, the first of which would be the oddly familiar Death Star looking object in the background. Not much is known about this object or wether it will be a weapon or not, however looking at the glowing center of it makes it hard to argue otherwise. The positioning of Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) and Rey (Daisy Ridley) is interesting to note as their characters are depicted the largest and their respective weapons appear to line up perfectly next to each other. This has left many fans to speculate on what kind of relationship the two characters will have to each other in the film. Lastly, the poster features several characters new and old including, Han Solo (Harrison Ford), Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher), BB-8, Fin (John Bodega) and more, however, one key character to the franchise does not appear on the poster. That key character being Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill). Mark Hamill narrated parts of the second teaser for the film released in April and given his characters’ importance to the franchise there is arguably some significant reason Luke is not depicted on this poster. Of course for now we’ll have to wait for any official announcements and more details will likely be seen tomorrow on ESPN, so stay tuned. Star Wars: The Force Awakens will land in theaters on December 18
