Straight Outta Compton‘s F. Gary Gray has been recently been eyed by studios as their lead candidate to direct Fast and Furious 8. Now it has been confirmed by gray himself that he is indeed going to be helming the picture. Gray tweeted a picture of the FF8 logo and he also says in the caption “Cant ask for better partners than Vin, Neal & Universal. Excited to bring u the next chapter of the #FastFamily saga”
Universal, along with Diesel and Moritz had previously searched for other directors such as The Signal’s Will Eubank, The Guest’s Adam Wingard and Louis Leterrier. Justin Lin, who had previously helmed four of the installments, was another choice but his schedule conflicts with “Star Trek 3” made it not possible for him to take on the job.
The actors expected to Return for this 8th installment are Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Ludacris, Tyrese Gibson, Jason Statham and Kurt Russell. Diesel will be producing alongside Neal Moritz. As shown in the logo the film hits theaters April 14th, 2017.
