Hollywood has been speculation and rumors have been flying around as to who would direct the next Fast and Furious film. Vin Diesel was rumored and interested in directing but the action star will stick to acting rather than directing.

According to The Wrap, F. Gary Gray, who is fresh off directing Straight Outta Compton, Grey has worked with both Vin Diesel and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson before and has experience in the action genre with The Italian Job.

Straight out of Compton has made $200 million worldwide so Universal Studios has a lot of faith in Grey to deliver once again in Furious 8. The news is not official but studio executives are going to meet with producer/star Vin Diesel and producer Neal Moritz, and that they will likely decide between Gray and another director.

No plot details have yet been released for the new movie but audiences can expect a lot of action, car chases, witty one liners, and amazing special effects. Vin Diesel has also said recently that this will be part of a trilogy that will ultimately close out the franchise.

Fast and Furious 8 is slated for release April 14, 2017.
