A BIG win at the box office this weekend for Sony pictures and Adam Sandler as Hotel Transylvania 2 took the number one movie in America!

This family animated film about a spooky hotel with ghost, goblins, vampires and werewolves brought in an estimated $48.2 million breaking records for Sony and even the iconic comedian himself. Sandler who is an executive producer, co writer and lends his voice to the characters in the film has been seeing all time lows in the box office with his recent live action films such as Pixels, Jack and Jill and Blended.

A pattern is showing and that family friendly movies released in the late September seem to do well in the box office. From Open Season to Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, they all had impressive openings. It may partially be due to audiences being over the summer blockbuster hits and but wanting something a little more light hearted than the Academy Award drama filled hopefuls so a relaxing family cartoon hits the spot. The movie is out in theaters now
