This past August saw the release of the stop motion feature flick Shaun the Sheep. The movie surprisingly ended up to be one of StudioCanal’s most successful releases this year. The film surpassed the $100 million milestone at the global box office on 2 weeks ago. This numbers includes $21 million in the U.K., $18 million in the U.S. after it’s domestic release in August, $12 million in Germany, $6.7 million in France, and $5.7 million from Australia and New Zealand together. Thanks to its success the studio announced this past Monday that Shaun the Sheep 2 is in development.

For those who have yet to see the film, Shaun the Sheep was the story of Shaun, a sheep who deciding to take a day off and have some fun. Unfortunately, this causes the farmer to be taken away to the Big City. Banding together with Bitzer and the other flock of sheep, Shaun makes it his mission to bring him home, while avoiding the city’s animal catcher. The film was co-directed and co-written by Mark Burton and Richard Starzak, and the voice cast featured Justin Fletcher (Shaun, Timmy), John Sparkes (The Farmer, Blitzer), and Omid Djalili (Trumper).

No time table has been set for this upcoming sequel.
