The actors he earned their star power through a slew of critically acclaimed, versatile performances. Now the two performers could be starring alongside one another in the upcoming film The Current War.

The Current War, a biopic set in the late 1880s, follows Thomas Edison and his competitor George Westinghouse as they compete for dominance over the electricity market. Variety reports that the actors are in negotiations to star in the feature, Cumberbatch as Edison and Gyllenhaal as Westinghouse. The film, written by Michael Mitnick (The Giver) will be directed by Alfonso Gomez-Rejon, who is famous for his highly lauded Sundance Film Festival feature Me and Earl and the Dying Girl.
