After the massive success of Straight Outta Compton, it seems more hip hop biopic stories are being talked about now. There is already a movie about Death Row Records being made that focuses on Suge Knight, Snoop Dogg, 2Pac, Tha Dogg Pound and more. Now there have been rumors that a movie on another legendary Label may be getting produced. That Label happens to be Def Jam Records.

Def Jam was a label that was founded by Russell Simmons and Rick Rubin back in 1983 and over its long storied history it has been home to some of the finest and most acclaimed artist in Hip Hop, R & B, Pop and as of now Electronic Dance Music. Artist such as LL Cool J, Beastie Boys, Ja Rule, Ashanti, Onyx, Redman, Ludacris, DMX, Rick Ross, Rihanna, Justin Bieber, 2 Chainz, Foxy Brown, Afrojack, Alesso, Nas, Babyface, and Frank Ocean have all been or are currently signed to Def Jam Records. Jay-z was even at one point the president of the Label as well as an artist on there.

Universal Studios have been looking at 2 time Oscar nominee Jonah Hill and Michael B Jordan to play Rubin and Simmons respectively in the film. Reports say The script might be based on the 2002 book “Life and Def: Sex, Drugs, Money, + God,” written by Simmons and Nelson George. More specifically, Deadline has said the movie would focus on the label’s early years.

as of now nothing has been set in stone.
