James Wan the director of the Box Office mega hit Furious 7 has officially signed on to produce a new live action “Mortal Kombat” movie. Mortal Kombat is a fighting video game series that was first released in 1992 and has gone on to spawn many sequel games including its latest installment Mortal Kombat X which was released earlier this year. Along with the games there have been two Mortal Kombat films released in both 1995 and 1997 as well as two TV shows.
According to sources this new Mortal Kombat film will follow a male protagonist who gets drawn into the interdimensional tournament, and begins to realize his true potential as a fighter while partaking in the tournament. The screenplay is written by Oren Uziel and well as The Expendables and Godzilla‘s Dave Callaham.
No release date for this film has been announced as of yet.
