Coming at a time where gay marriage became legal all throughout the U.S and the entire media coverage of Caitlyn Jenner and her transition as a transgender, Julianne Moore and Ellen Page new movie Freeheld couldn’t be anymore timely. The movie tackles the real life story of New Jersey police detective, Laurel Hester and her domestic partner in an auto mechanic, Stacie Andree.

As show in the trailer Hester (Moore) develops a relationship with Andree (Page) which goes on for over six years until Laurel finds out she has terminal cancer. Laurel becomes especially concerned about Stacie’s future when she realizes that their relationship will not have the benefit of having her pension passed to her lover upon her death. Thus, a legal battle ensues to attain the same basic privilege that a straight marriage would have.

In the trailer we see that Michael Shannon, Steve Carrell will also appear in the film. The project had originally been written in 2010 but sat in development hell for 4 years before shooting finally began last year and finished up not to long ago. Peter Sollett, who is known from 2008 romance film, Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist will serve as director. The movie is set to get a limited release October 2nd. Scroll down for the trailer.
