Rob McElhenny, the creator, producer, writer and co-star of the FX series It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia, is set to take on the directors chair for a movie based on the video game Minecraft. McElhenney has previously directed two episodes of It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia, and the pilot episode of another FX series Pariah but as never directed a feature length film. He replaces Shawn Levy (Night of the Museum: Secret of the Tomb) who was the original director for the project but left due to creative differences.
Along with the Minecraft movie McElhenny is set to develop another feature film known as Figment which Legendary Pictures has agreed to distribute. He is set for that film to both write and direct it. The “Minecraft” movie currently has no release date nor a cast as of yet.
