Angelina Jolie looks to continue her successful run as a director as she has signed a deal to helm a new picture for Netflix. The movie is titled First They Killed My Father: A Daughter of Cambodia Remembers and it is a story about Cambodian author and human rights activist Loung Ung. Angelina Jolie will also be producing and has co-written the script with the Ung who went through the horrific story told in her memoir. In an official statement about the movie Jolie said, “I was deeply affected by Loung’s book. It deepened forever my understanding of how children experience war and are affected by the emotional memory of it. And it helped me draw closer still to the people of Cambodia, my son’s homeland.”
There is currently no official release date but there is a plan to have a finished cut available on Netflix by late 2016. There has also been consideration about having the movie play at certain international film festivals before it arrives on the streaming service. For now the movie is still in pre production and an actress to play Loung Ung is still being sought after.
