J.K. Simmons is working together with Whiplash director Damien Chazelle to make a movie musical, entitled La La Land. Simmons, who won an Academy Award this past year for his role in Whiplash and was most recently seen in Terminator: Genisys will also star in the film, as the character simply known as “Boss.”
The film is to be fronted by Ryan Gosling, who plays a struggling jazz pianist, and Emma Stone, an aspiring actress. The two fall in love in the city of Los Angeles, and then are faced with tough choices about their relationship as their careers grow. Gosling and Stone last appeared together as lovers in the 2011 film Crazy Stupid Love.
Chazelle has wanted to get La La Land on its feet since before his work with Whiplash, and now he is getting that chance. With most of its cast in place, it seems the film is heading out of the preproduction stage, and its expected release date is July 15th, 2016.
