Minions, the anticipated animated film based off the adorable sidekicks from Despicable Me, opened in England and conquered the box office. According to CinemaBlend, Minions took in $18.2 million, knocking Jurassic Park off the top spot and now has the record for the biggest opening of an animated film in the UK.
The film passed Toy Story 3’s $18 million record from 2010. Minions box office figures also look impressive in Austrailia, Inodnesia, and Brazil, breaking records in each country.
If Minions has similar success in the US when it opens July 10th like it did across the pond, then Universal Studios would have a continued year of success with its movies. They have already brought in $3.6 billion across the world from Fifty Shades of Grey, Jurassic World, Furious 7, and Pitch Perfect 2 combined.
Minions stars Sandra Bullock, Jon Hamm, and Michael Keaton, along with other notable celebrities, and is directed by Kyle Balda and Pierre Coffin.
