DuVernay confirmed this in an interview with Essence Magazine saying she considered directing the movie, but ultimately decided the project wasn’t for her. “I think I’ll just say we had different ideas about what the story would be,” she told them at the Essence Festival in New Orleans. “I love that they reached out to me.” Despite there being no director as of now as the film still has time as the movie staring Chadwick Boseman as the titular character wont be out until 2018.
