After over four years of anticipation, the trailer for “The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part” has finally dropped.

The animation sequel will take place five years after the events of the original film, where the LEGO DUPLO invaders began to destroy everything faster than the citizens of Bricksburg could rebuild. The movie will also feature several of the characters we loved from the originally such as Emmett, Wyldstyle, Batman and Unikitty. The trailer sets up the new, post-apocalyptic Bricksburg to look like something out of a “Mad Max” movie with everything falling apart. Emmett seems to be the only one remaining happy in this world, until a strange alien LEGO comes down and takes Wyldstyle and several other characters up to space, causing Emmett to take matters into his own hands to rescue them.

As a huge fan of the original, I was concerned going into this trailer, especially given the disappointment of the last film in the franchise, “The LEGO Ninjago Movie,” and with Phil Lord and Chris Miller stepping back as directors. Luckily, this trailer gave me confidence that this movie will have all the fun of the first film. I found the visuals to be just as stunning as they had been, with the worlds being built being particularly impressive, I cannot wait to see more of space, and with the character design for the new alien character looking iconic already.

The humor was also sharp, you can tell Lord and Miller still had their hands on the script, with the joke with the spaceship’s directional making me laugh especially hard. As for negatives, which there are few of, I do wish they found a way to incorporate President Business since he was such a fun character in the first. Also, considering how big of a star she has become, I was shocked that they did not utilize new cast member Tiffany Haddish in this trailer. Maybe I missed it or she has a more secret role but I was looking forward to hearing her.

Besides that, I am excited for this, even if I have to wait eight months before I can see it. The film also sees the return of stars Chris Pratt, Elizabeth Banks, and Will Arnett, along with newcomers such as Charlie Day and Sophie Beatriz.
