The Agatha Christie murder-mystery novel is hitting the big screen this November and it bring along a slew of stars, or should I say suspects, along for the ride.
Murder on the Orient Express will be the film’s second adaptation of the story, following Sidney lumet’s 1974 award-winning film.
Director, Kenneth Branagh, will also star as Christie’s memorable Belgian detective, Hercule Poirot, who investigates a death after a passenger is stabbed death aboard a luxurious sleeper train heading from Istanbul to Paris. Any of the passengers riding along, from Spanish missionary (Penélope Cruz) to Russian princess (Judi Dench), could be the infamous killer.
In an interview with PEOPLE, Penélope Cruz said she was drawn to the mystery behind each person on the train. “The characters, all of them, have so many layers and so many colors. It’s hard to know, ‘Oh, this is obviously an innocent person and this is obviously the guilty person.’ It’s very ambiguous the whole time because that’s what human nature is.”
Much of the remaining cast are well known, and naturally, award-winning, making this film one to look forward to. The star-studded cast includes: Marwan Kenzari, Lucy Boynton, Derek Jacobi, Josh Gad, Sergei Polunin, Judi Dench, Daisy Ridley, Kenneth Branagh, Penélope Cruz, Olivia Coleman, Willem Dafoe, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Johnny Depp, Michelle Pfeiffer, Tom Bateman and Hamilton‘s Leslie Odom Jr.
Although the film is not set the release until early November, 20th Century Fox is wasting no time in promoting the murder-mystery (and rightfully so). The newest release for the film is the poster which is ominous, depicting a merlot smoke cloud coming out of the bustling train headed straight for viewers.
This is a big year for the Branagh, the actor/director veteran is uniquely finding ways to bring the classic stories we all love to the big screen again. His versions of Hamlet, Cinderella, Mary Shelly’s Frankenstein, Henry V, Macbeth and much more have left fans enticed and ready for more. Branagh also has a starring role in Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk, the film is arguable the summer’s most anticipated must-see-film.
