“X-Men: The New Mutants” is about to film, and has just cast its first titular new mutants. The Hollywood Reporter has reported that Anya Taylor-Joy and Maisie Williams have been cast in the project. Taylor-Joy will be playing Illyana Rasputin aka Magik, a Russian mutant whose teleporting abilities are only rivaled by her magic and sword skills. Meanwhile, Williams will be playing Rahne Sinclair aka Wolfsbane, a shy Irish girl whose power to turn into a wolf is impeded by her strict religious upbringing.
Taylor-Joy has recently broken out for her roles in “The Witch,” “Morgan,” “Barry,“ and “Split.“ She will next be in “Thoroughbred with Olivia Cooke and Anton Yelchin. Williams is best recognized for her roles as Arya Stark in HBO‘s “Game of Thrones.“ She was also seen in BBC‘s “Doctor Who” and in the films “The Book of Love“ and “iBoy.“ She is set to be in the films “Mary Shelley“ and “Early Man.“
It is also rumored that James McAvoy will be returning to play Prof. Charles Xavier for “New Mutants.” Josh Boone is directing the film from a script he, Knate Gwaltney, Scott Neustadter, and Michael H. Weber wrote. Simon Kinberg and Lauren Shuler Donner are producing. April 13, 2018 is the planned release for “X-Men: The New Mutants.”
