As if a live-action version of ‘The Lion King’ was not enticing enough, Jon Favreau’s rendition is said to include Seth Rogan and Bill Eichner as Pumbaa and Timon. Both comedic stars are in the final negotiations to take part in the Disney classic.
Rogan will voice the role of the lovable Pumbaa, and Eichner will take on the role of everyone’s favorite meerkat, Timon. Originally the two were voiced by Nathan Lane (Timon) and Ernie Sabella (Pumbaa,) respectively.
Both Rogan and Eichner tackle the nostalgic song based on the Swahili phrase “Hakuna Matata;” for those of you not familiar with the song Hakuna Matata translates to “no worries,” a common theme throughout the 1994 film.
Actor Donald Glover will play the lead lion cub, Simba, joined by James Earl Jones, returning to voice Mufasa. Beyonce is also rumored to be the film’s top choice to voice the character Nala in the remake.
Jeff Nathanson of ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales’ wrote the script for the live-action film, joined by producers Jeffrey Silver and Favreau.
‘The Lion King’ is currently in preproduction in Los Angeles. It is set for release on July 19, 2019.
