It must be great to be Dominic Toretto and Co. right now. According to multiple outlets, the latest installment in the Fast and Furious franchise has made history in its first weekend of release by becoming the biggest opening weekend of all time. “Fate of the Furious” grossed $532 million this weekend to beat out “The Force Awakens” by a mere 3 million.

This is a huge victory for the franchise as it goes to show that each film is growing in popularity and that these aren’t going away anytime soon. While it only grossed $100 million domestically, its biggest strength was in the international market specifically in China. Around $190 million came just from the Chinese markets alone and all together 80% of the it’s total gross came from the international market.

With Furious beating Star Wars, it seems like it will be inevitable that this film will be the highest grossing film of 2017 in a few weeks. The question will be whether or not it can stay atop for the rest of the year and if anything else like “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” to beat it out in December.

“The Fate of the Furious” find crew leader Dom Toretto turning his back on family and going rouge to work for the mysterious villain known as Cipher, who is played by the talented Charlize Theron. The film also sees the return of Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, and Jason Statham, and is directed by F. Gary Gray. “The Fate of the Furious” is in theaters now
