Two new photos have come out giving a first look at Alicia Vikander as adventurer Lara Croft in “Tomb Raider.“ The photos were released by Vanity Fair, which show Lara standing in the woods and Lara holding a stick against an unknown enemy. along with the photos, the plot was released on the video game adaption.
The film centers on a 21-year-old Lara who, after her father disappeared seven years ago, is in collage in London and working as a bike courier. While still having hope that her father is alive, Lara takes a chance by traveling to his last location: a tomb off the cost of Japan. Now, with the help of a colleague Lu Ren (Daniel Wu), Lara must push herself to her limits as she faces an army lead by Father Mathias Vogel (Walton Goggins).
Vikander told Vanity Fair, “When I was asked to take on this role I got really excited—Lara Croft is a truly iconic character. I think people can identify with her for lots of different reasons, but for me I very much see her as a model for many young women. She’s trying to carve out her place in the world and connect her future with her past. She also has a fantastic mix of traits—tough, smart, vulnerable, plus she’s kick ass! She is also uniquely different to other characters I have taken on previously. It’s a lot of fun trying to get into Lara’s head and the challenge of getting to grips with such a physical role is an element of this project that I find an absolute thrill.”
The film also stars Dominic West as Lara’s father Richard Croft. Roar Uthaug directs the project from a script by Geneva Robertson-Dworet. “Tomb Raider” is set to come out on March 16, 2018.
