A new trailer has come out for writer and director Sofia Coppola‘s readapting of the western drama, “The Beguiled.“ Originally, it was a novel titled A Painted Devil by Thomas Cullinan. However, a previous film was made in 1971 starring Clint Eastwood and directed by Don Siegel.
Based in Mississippi during the Civil War, the film centers on John McBurney (Colin Farrell), an injured Union soldier who is taken in by an all-girls boarding school. As McBurney heals, he begins to con his way into the hearts of the students and teachers, including headmistress Martha Farnsworth (Nicole Kidman), teacher Edwina Dabney (Kirsten Dunst), and teenage student Alicia (Elle Fanning). This leads to the women turning on each other, then onto McBurney, as paranoia sets in as to weather or not the school will turn McBurney in to the Confederacy.
American Zoetrope and FR Productions are producing the film with Coppola, Youree Henley, and Roman Coppola. Focus Features is distributing the remake. “The Beguiled” will come to theaters on June 23, 2017.
