Following plenty of rumors, a new trailer for “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” was released during the 51st Super Bowl. While just a portion of the trailer was aired during a commercial, an extended look was released online at the same time. The trailer is currently the second most watched Super Bowl trailer behind “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.”
The trailer opens up with a unique visual shot of a reanimated, dead bird serving as a warning sign of the film’s undead antagonists. The trailer does not shy away from showing off how menacing the villains, led by Javier Bardem‘s Captain Salazar, will be. Their stripped apart, decaying ship is seen running through other vessels, the sea is parting around their enemies and they can even walk on water.
What is not clear from this trailer is the actual plot of the film. The story is set to focus on Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) as he searches for the Trident of Poseidon to defeat Salazar. This leads to another point that Depp is hardly anywhere in this film. Besides a brief scene at the end, they use him and many of the other big names stars, including Orlando Bloom, Geoffrey Rush, and Brenton Thwaites, sparingly.
This is certainly one of the higher profile movies of 2017 and will certainly be anticipated by many. “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” is currently slated to be released for Memorial Day weekend on May 26, 2017.
