While it was announced that Emily Blunt‘s character would not be returning to the “Sicario” sequel “Soldado, new cast members have been announced. Deadline reports that actors Matthew Modine and Catherine Keener will join Benicio del Toro and Josh Brolin for the sequel. Modine will be playing Secretary of Defense Director James Ridley, while Keener will be the Deputy Director.

Modine is best known for being part of the 80s Brat Pack, starring in films like “Full Metal Jacket, “Birdy, and “Vision Quest. He was also seen in projects like “Weeds, “Transporter 2, and “The Dark Knight” while also directing numerous shorts. Modine gained a career resurgence for his role as Dr. Martin Brenner in Netflix‘s hit TV series “Stranger Things. He will next be in 47 Meters Down,“The Hippopotamus,” and The Heyday of the Insensitive Bastards.

Meanwhile, Keener is a renounced actress of the independent scene, working on films like “Living in Oblivion, “Being John Malkovich,” “Capote, “Into the Wild, and Synecdoche, New York.” She has also had mainstream successes in “The 40-Year-Old Virgin, “Where the Wild Things Are,” “The Croods, and “Captain Phillips. Keener will next be seen in the horror thriller “Get Out” and the crime drama “November Criminals.

Stefano Sollima will replace Denis Villenueve as director, with Taylor Sheridan returning to direct. Jeffrey Donovan will also be returning, with Isabela Moner also cast. The film sees the return of hitman or sicario Alejandro Gillick (del Toro) once again teaming with CIA operative Matt Graver (Brolin) as violence and drug trafficking escalates around the Mexican border.”Soldado” comes out sometime in 2017.
