The 2012 shooting in Aurora, Colorado during the showing of “The Dark Knight Returns” changed safety regulations and security for movie theaters. Now, director Tim Sutton wants to explore the events that lead up to that in his film “Dark Night.“ The fictionalized account will use unknown and non-professional actors along with a pseudo-documentary style to it.
In the film, the lives of six strangers living near a suburban Cineplex intersect over the course of a full day. This all leads a mass shooting in the theater, where one of the six is the shooter. “Dark Night” has already premiered at Sundance, and will premiere in New York on February 3. No widespread release date has been announced.
