It was previously announced that Margot Robbie would star and produce an all-female villains movie with the DC Comics universe that could possible feature Batgirl and the Birds of Prey. Now, The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that the film is going to be titled “Gotham City Sirens” and that David Ayer will be directing the film. Ayer previously directed Robbie in this year’s “Suicide Squad,“ where the actress gained acclaim for her performance as Haley Quinn, the abused girlfriend of the Joker.
“Gotham City Sirens” came out in 2009 and ran until 2011, being written by Paul Dini. The comic centered on adventures that Harley Quinn, Catwoman, and Poison Ivy have in Gotham City after Bruce Wayne is supposedly killed. While Harley and Ivy are prominently featured, the main focus was on Catwoman for having suffered a traumatic encounter with the Batman villain Hush.
Geneva Robertson-Dworet will be writing the script for Robbie and Ayer. Ayer is currently working on the Netflix film “Bright” while Robbie will next be playing disgraced ice skater Tonya Harding in “I, Tonya.“ No release date has been set for “Gotham City Sirens.”
