Jessica Chastain is set to star in the comic book adaption of the graphic novel “Painkiller Jane.“ According to Deadline, not only will Chastain play the titular character, she will also be producing the film under her Freckle Films banner. Lotus Entertainment’s Lenny Beckerman and Solipsist Films’ Stephen L’Heureux will also be producing the film.
Created in 1995 by Jimmy Palmiotti and Joe Quesada, the Event Comics miniseries followed Jane Vasko, an undercover cop infiltrating the mafia. However, Jane’s life changes when a bomb is planted on her and explodes, critically injuring her. Jane not only survives the incident, but also gains regenerative superpowers in the process. Abandoning her police career, Jane becomes the vigilante Painkiller Jane in order to take down the mafia and other crime syndicates.
“Painkiller Jane” has been adapted into other media, such as a televison film on the Sci-Fi Channel starring Emmanuelle Vaugier and a 2007 television series, also on Sci-Fi, starring Kristanna Loken. Currently, no scriptwriter, director, or production date has been announced for “Painkiller Jane.”
