A second trailer has dropped for the Chinese-American collaboration film, “The Great Wall.“ As the title suggests, it will center on the Great Wall of China and the ‘true’ reason why it was built. The film, which gained controversy for its casting Matt Damon, Pedro Pascal, and Willem Dafoe as the leads against a Chinese setting, also includes a cast of Chinese actors Jing Tian, Lu Han, and Andy Lau.
In the film, mercenaries William Garin (Damon) and Pero Tovar (Pascal) come to Ancient China to trade with the Chinese forces for a powerful weapon. Believing them to be just thieves, Commander Lin Mei (Tian) locks them up. It is then that William and Pero witness why the Wall was built: monsters on the other side are at war with the military as they attempt to spread to the rest of China. It is then that an inspired William and a reluctant Pero join Lin Mei and her army to fight off the monsters.
The movie is directed by Yimou Zhang and written by Carlo Bernard, Doug Miro, and Tony Gilroy based off of a story by Max Brooks, Edward Zwick, and Marshall Herskovitz. It is produced by Legendary East, Le Vision Pictures, Atlas Entertainment, and China Film Group, with distribution from Universal Pictures. “The Great Wall” comes out on February 17, 2017.
