“Fifty Shades of Grey” was a popular book when it came out, and of course with such a mainstream success, a studio is going to try to take it and make it into even more of a mainstream success on screen. Well just less than two years after the first film was release comes the trailer for the sequel, “Fifty Shades Darker, also based off the second book in the E.L. James trilogy. I must disclaim first that I never have seen or read anything in the “Fifty Shades” franchise so I don’t want to sound unfair in anyway.

However when I did my research, I realized that in order to film a sequel, you really don’t need to earn a high critical reception or even a well received fan-base, all that you really need is money. To prove my point, the 2015 feature received a sad 4.1 on IMDb‘s ratings, and a 25% approval rating on the website Rotten Tomatoes. Yet it being a box office success was the true decipher to produce “Fifty Shades Darker.” As for my thoughts on the trailer, the overall plot of the story seemed very vague and convoluted. Yes I am sure this will be quite an erotic film given all the sexy clips and images of actors Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan, but just because a movie is edgy and controversial does not automatically make it good.

For those who are interested in watching, “Fifty Shades Darker” will hit theaters February 10, 2017, and will directed by James Foley.
