Will Tarashuk and Patrick Hopkins kicked off the show by posing the question: What makes a good comedy?

Patrick likes when movies catch the absurdity of humanity, along with physical comedy, like Sean of the Dead. Will believes stupid comedy can work, if it’s clever, for example, Dumb and Dumber and Airplane. Spoof humor also works as long as it’s done well. It seems that in recent years, comedies have to be dirty. There doesn’t seem to be movies like Dodgeball or Happy Gilmore. He wishes there were still PG-13 movies, but they don’t seem to make money.

Movie Reviews

Pete’s Dragon

The film follows the adventures of a boy named Pete and his dragon, Elliot, who acts more like a dog. It’s a very family oriented movie where the kid learns a message, as always. The effects are superb but the plot itself is subpar. It lacks one of the major selling points, Elliot the dragon. Overall, it’s cutesy, yet not exceptional. Little kids and families will enjoy this, not really for the college demographic.

Florence Foster Jenkins

A New York heiress follows her dreams of becoming an opera singer, despite having a terrible voice. Meryl Streep gives an amazing performance, making terrible singing so good. There was a lot of Meryl, which was delightful, she but had some good supportive characters like Hugh Grant and The Big Bang Theory’s Simon Helberg.

Sausage Party

A sausage discovers truth about his existence. Usually, food from the supermarket wants to be bought because they find humans as gods. This movie was full of dirt, grime, and not safe for radio discussion. The cast is astounding and the movie is absolutely hysterical. Our hosts have been excited about the movie for a long time and found it clever, interesting, and wholly original. It is an interesting commentary on society. How did we not think of this before?

You NEED to see this movie. DON’T BRING YOUR KIDS.
