More and more news is piling up from Marvel‘s panel at the San Diego Comic-Con, as a new cast member along with character reveals for “Black Panther.“ Director Ryan Coogler came with Chadwick Boseman (T’Challa aka Black Panther), Lupita Nyong’o, Michael B. Jordan, and Danai Gurira. Gurira, who was at Comic-Con to promote the next season of AMC‘s “The Walking Dead” (where she plays sword-wielding Michonne), was the only actress not previously revealed to be involved.
Here are the characters reveal to be in the film: Jordan will be playing the main antagonist Erik Killmonger, formerly known as N’Jadaka, a Wakandan whose father’s involvement with arms dealer Ulysses Klau (Andy Serkis) lead to his father’s death and the family’s exile by T’Challa’s father. Moving to the states, N’Jadaka changed his name to Killmonger and began to educate himself to one day overthrowing the royal family of Wakanda.
Meanwhile, Nyong’o will be playing Nakia, a member of the Dora Milaje (‘Adored Ones’) who were wives-in-training and bodyguards to be presented to Wakandan kings. Nakia instantly fell for T’Challa, but became increasing obsessed with him that she attempted to kill a former American girlfriend of T’Challa. Relieved of her duties, Nakia would end up becoming the villain Malice.
Finally, Gurira is set to play Okoye, the head of the Dora Milaje. While it is a wife-in-training group, the Dora Milaje also primarily acts as Wakanda’s defense force. After being forced to reactivate the organization to sooth internal conflict, T’Challa put Okoye in charge of the Dora Milaje. Okoye has feelings towards T’Challa, but knows that he does not feel the same way and puts her feeling aside to serve her king.
It is rumored that Andy Serkis will return as arms dealer Klau for the film, along with Sebastian Stan as the Winter Soldier. Coolger wrote the script with Joe Roberts Cole. “Black Panther” will come out February 18, 2018.
