In its Comic-Con preview, Entertainment Weekly has officially revealed the first images for the film adaption of Stephen King‘s “The Dark Tower. In the cover and 2 set photos, EW shows what gunslinger Roland Deschain (Idris Elba), Walter, The Man in Black (Matthew McConaughey), and Jake Chambers (newcomer Tom Taylor) will look like in the film. EW also revealed details of how the film will adapt the book series.

While the plot is mostly from the first book, “The Gunslinger, the film will take numerous elements from the all of the books. This includes the club the Dixie Pig and its owner Richard Sayre (Jackie Earl Haley) as seen in book six, “Songs for Susannah.” There will also be elements from other Stephen King books, such as Jake having the Shine, the psychic powers seen in Danny Torrance from “The Shining. However, these changes are approved by King, who was consulted with the script.

The film is directed by Nikolaj Arcel with the script written by Arcel, Akiva GoldsmanAnders Thomas Jensen, and Jeff Pinkner. It also stars Abbey Lee and Katheryn Winnick. “The Dark Tower” will arrive on February 17, 2017.
