Actor Ewan McGregor will now be behind the camera, as a new trailer has dropped for his directorial debut, “American Pastoral. The film will also star McGregor, along with Jennifer Connelly and Dakota Fanning. It is based off of a Philip Roth novel, with a script from John Romano.

Based in the 1960s, the film centers on Seymour “Swede” Levov (McGregor) a former star athlete turned successful businessman, who is living the American dream with his wife Dawn (Connelly) and their daughter Merry (Fanning). However, Seymour’s idealistic view on life is shattered when Merry, having joined a left-wing terrorist group, bombs a post office and goes on the run. Now, Merry’s parents are left to deal with reproductions of her actions, while Seymour begins his own search for his daughter.

The film also stars David Strathairn as Nathan Zuckerman, a narrator seen in previous Roth novels, along with Rupert Evans as Seymour’s brother Jerry and Valorie Curry as Rita, a woman who persuades Merry to commit acts of terrorism. Gary Lucchesi and Tom Rosenberg also produce the film. “American Pastoral” will come on October 21, 2016.
