From Christopher Nolan‘s “Interstellar” to Ridley Scott‘s “The Martian,” movies have been coming out about humanity’s fascination with space exploration. Now, another film, “The Space Between Us,“ will be coming out. However, what is different about this film is the journey to return to Earth.
The film centers on Gardner Elliot (Asa Butterfield), a teenager who was unexpectedly born and raised on the first human settlement on Mars. Gardner has heard so many things about humanity’s home planet, and even has a long distance friendship with normal teen Tulsa (Britt Robertson), that he wants to return. However, due to being raised in the settlement’s low gravity and environment, there is risk that Gardner might not survive his visit to Earth. Despite surviving the journey, the settlement’s head Nathaniel Shepard (Gary Oldman) and Gardner’s surrogate mother, Kendra (Carla Gugino) keep him confined on Earth to climatize to the new environment. Yet Gardner’s need to see the world causes him to escape with Tulsa, allowing him to experience Earth for the first time while the concerned scientists are after him.
The movie is directed by Peter Chelsom with a script by Allan Loeb. Story was also by Loeb with Stewart Schill and Richard Barton Lewis. “The Space Between Us” is set to land August 19.
