Arnold Schwarzenegger is returning to comedy in “Why We’re Killing Gunther”, an action comedy written and directed by “Saturday Night Live” star Taran Killam.
The film is Killam’s directorial debut. He will also star in the film with his wife, Cobie Smulders and Bobby Moynihan, Paul Brittain, Kumail Nanjiani, Randall Park, and Ryan Gaul.
“Why We’re Killing Gunther” is about a man named Gunther, the world’s greatest hitman and arrogant narcissist. After becoming fed up with his antics, his crew of international assassins decide to kill him. Their plan, however, ends up devolving into a series of embarrassing situations as Gunther always ends up one step ahead.
The film will be produced by Killam, Kim Leadford, Ash Sarohia and Steve Squillante and financed by StarStream Media. MadRiver Pictures will pitch the project to international buyers at the Cannes film market, with UTA representing North American rights. A June start date is being considered for production.
Killam has previously appeared in The Heat and “12 Years a Slave.” He is repped by UTA, Principato-Young Entertainment and Ziffren Brittenham.
Schwarzenegger’s most recent acting credits include “Terminator Genisys” and the zombie drama Maggie. He is repped by CAA and Blooom Hergott.
No release date has been set for “Why We’re Killing Gunther.”
