Anthony Mackie will portray famous lawyer Johnnie Cochran in an upcoming film based on the prominent police brutality case in Signal Hill. There is no name yet for the movie, but it will focus on the 1981 case involving Cochran’s defense of the family of college football player Ron Settles. The player had been arrested for speeding, but was later found beaten and hanged in his cell.
Cochran was recently portrayed by Courtney B Vance on the critical hit tv show, “American Crime Story: The People vs OJ Simpson.” This film will mark the first film portrayal of Cochran and the 2nd portrayal overall of the famous lawyer.
The film is penned by David McMillian and will be produced by Mackie, Jason Spire, and Robbie Brenner. McMillian and Jeff Kwatinetz will act as executive producers. Mackie can also be seen reprising his role as Falcon in “Captain America: Civil War” this weekend. The actor will portray Martin Luther King Jr. in the HBO movie “All the Way,” and will play Jesse Owens in an upcoming biopic that he will produce. No release date has been announced as of yet.
