A biopic about the life and work of author J.D. Salinger, titled Rebel in the Rye—a play on the title of his best-known work, The Catcher in the Rye—just began filming in New York City. The film follows Salinger from his boyhood, to his time serving in WWII, and his difficult years after that ultimately led to the creation of his iconic book, The Catcher in the Rye.
Most notable cast members include Nicholas Hoult, Kevin Spacey, Brian D’Arcy James, Victor Garber, Hope Davis, and now Sarah Paulson. Paulson, recognized for her roles in “The People V. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story”, “American Horror Story”, “Carol”, and “12 Years a Slave”, will play Dorothy Olding; Salinger’s agent, and earliest supporter.
The screenplay has been adapted from Kenneth Slawenski’s biography, J.D. Salenger: A Life. “Rebel in the Rye”, financed by Black Label Media, and produced by James Cohen, Jason Shuman, and Strong, has no set release date.
