Are you ready to play the game again? Because Sony Pictures has a brand new “Jumanji” remake coming your way!
Actor Dwayne Johnson and comedian Kevin Hart are in hopes of recreating the classic film, “Jumanji,” with Jake Kasdan as their director. Kasdan is known for directing (and producing!) numerous media pieces. His directing credits include “Bad Teacher” and “Sex Tape.” In addition, he has produced many TV show episodes, from the old yet extremely viral “Freaks and Geeks,” to the new and popular “Ben and Kate,” “New Girl,” and “Fresh Off the Boat.”
Originally, the story was a children’s book authored and illustrated by Chris Van Allsburg that was released in 1995. The book would go on to win the Caldecott Award and was pitched as a movie by filmmaker Joe Johnston. The cast included legendary actor and comedian Robin Williams and the beautiful actress Kirsten Dunst.
Johnson and Hart have collaborated together on several projects. Recently, they will be in the New Line action/comedy film “Central Intelligence” (coming on June 17th), and have hosted this month’s MTV Movie Awards. While Johnson is co-starring in the new “Fast and Furious 8” film with actor Vin Diesel, he is also in the new movie “Rampage.” As for Hart, he will be a part of the remake of “The Intouchables.” Due to the heavy volume of works Johnson and Hart are doing right now, there could be some difficulties with bringing back “Jumanji” to the silver screen.
Jumanji rolls into theaters on July 28, 2017
