The first official photo from the live action version of “Ghost in the Shell” has been released. The photo shows Scarlett Johannson in full costume as Motoko Kusanagi. Kusangi is the lead character in a story adapted from the classic manga and anime series. Kusangi is also a special type of cyborg hybrid who’s goal is to prevent a future where robots and cybernetics take over everything.

“Ghost in a Shell” takes place in the fictional Japanese city of Niihama, a.k.a New Port City. Niihama is protected by Public Security Section 9, an elite special forces team of former military officers and police detectives all led by Kusanagi.

The ensemble cast will include actors form all over including Chin Han from Singapore, British actress Danusia Samal, Australia’s Lasarus Ratuere, Yutaka Izumihara from Japan, and Zimbabwae’s Tawanda Manyimo. others include Takeshi Kitano, Juliette Binoche, Michael Pitt, Pilou Asbæk and Kaori Momoi. Rupert Sanders serves as the director. Filming is happening right now and it is set for a release date of March 31, 2017.
