Last Saturday Kevin Hart and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson hosted the 25th MTV Movie Awards in the Warner Brothers Studio back lot in Burbank, California. Viewers got to watch as some of the best actors in the business took home their golden popcorn statues when the show aired Sunday night at 8:00 ET.

The two most monumental wins of the night went to Will Smith, for the Generation Award, and to Melissa McCarthy, for the Comedic Genius Award.

During his acceptance Smith first joked that the Generation Award was “code for the old-ass dude award,” but continued on to say that, “This June marks 30 years in this business…I’m dedicated to being a light in this world.”

McCarthy made MTV Movie Award history, being the first woman awarded the Comedic Genius Award. In her acceptance speech McCarthy said, “I may be the first woman to receive this award, but I am certainly not the first one to deserve it.” She sited several female comedians who influenced her career: Lucille Ball, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Carol Burnett, Gilda Radner, and Whoopi Goldberg. Following the footsteps of Will Ferrell and Kevin Hart, McCarthy is the third person to win this award.

Other notable wins of the night were “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” for Best Movie, Charlize Theron for Best Female Performance in “Mad Max: Fury Road”, and Leonardo DiCaprio for Best Male Performance in “The Revenant.”

Arianna Grande, Halsey, and a surprise performance by Salt-n-Pepa accounted for the musical performances of the night. Viewers were in for even more surprises with sneak-peek movie clips from upcoming films, “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Captain America: Civil War”, and the Blitz Trailer from “Suicide Squad.”
