And as if the Oscars weren’t enough, things got pretty hot at last night’s Empire Awards ceremony in London.
The Best Film award went to “The Revenant,” Best Actor went to Matt Damon with his portrayal in “The Martian,” and Best Actress went to Alicia Vikander, who starred in “The Danish Girl.” Meanwhile, the other films got lucky during the night, and earned multiple awards. “Mad Max: Fury Road” won soundtrack, costume design, makeup and hair design, and production design. However, “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” came out on top by winning Best Director for J.J. Abrams, visual effects, sci-fi/fantasy, and male and female newcomers for John Boyega and Daisy Ridley, respectively – totaling in five awards!
Among the other winners were “Spectre” for Best British Film and Best Thriller, “Inside Out” for Best Animated Film, “Amy” for Best Documentary, “The Big Short” for Best Screenplay, “The Hallow” for Best Horror, and “Spy” for Best Comedy.
Not only were the latest films presented with awards by the Empire, but some of the greatest people in film were bestowed with honorary awards as well. British actor and director Paddy Considine was presented the Empire Inspiration award, actor Stanley Tucci was presented the Empire Hero award, and actor Alan Rickman earned the Empire Legend award.
