Peter Berg is taking in the challenge of bringing the story of the Boston Bombing to the big screen. Mark Wahlberg is starring in the film and it now has its release date. “Patriot’s Day” is set for a December 21, 2016 release in Boston, New York, and Los Angeles. The film will be reached to wider audiences on January 13, 2017.

“Patriot’s Day” follows the events of the Boston Marathon bombing that happened back in 2013. Wahlberg and Berg worked together in Lone Survivor and that film had great success so expectations are high.

J.K. Simmons was recently attached to the piece. He will play police Sargent Jeffrey Pugliese, the officer of the Watertown Police Department who tracked and engaged the Tsarnaev Brothers. The Tsarnaev brothers were the two perps behind the terrorist attack.

Berg is hoping his movie will get the attention of The Academy with its release date right in the primetime of the awards season. His previous film,”Lone Survivor” got two nominations but did not win. Other competition might be “Star Wars: Rogue One”, but only time will tell.

Scott Stuber, Wahlberg, Hutch Parker, Dylan Clark, Stephen Levinson and Michael Radutzky will produce for CBS Films. CBS Films is also marketing of the project, while Lionsgate will take care of distribution.

“Patriot’s Day” will begin production later this month.
