Oscar winner J.K Simmons is getting ready to join the DC universe as the next Commissioner Gordon. Simmons will be playing this character in the upcoming “Justice League” films.

Commissioner James Gordon is a character that has been portrayed twice by actors Pat Hingle and Gary Oldman. Gordon is a detective who in the comic books works exclusively with Batman on many of his cases. Gordon has also been a focal part of many batman storylines including the infamous “The Killing Joke” storyline in which The Joker nearly drives him insane.

In these films Batman has already been the caped crusader for a very long time and so he shares a long traumatic history with Gordon that will be explored. Reports also say that Ben Affleck’s solo Batman film may also go back to the early years of James Gordon.

For now J.K Simmons joins a cast that includes Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Gal Galdot, Ezra Miller, Jason Momoa, Ray Fisher, Amy Adams, and Amber Heard. The movie will be directed by Zack Synder and will be released November 17th, 2017.
